VW 23 Window Samba Microbus. Built in December 1958 for the 1959 model year this Type 24 top of the line transporter "Samba" Microbus includes a fully functioning massive sliding canvas sunroof flanked by 4 skylight windows on each side of the roof. Rare 9 passenger Deluxe has a "bulkhead" front bench seat accompanied by 2 row bench seats. One of the original 23 windows built through late 1963. A professional ground up restoration on a rust free body, in show condition, painted in its original Cinnabar Red/White with Deluxe flat polished exterior aluminum trim, color matching center molding bead, excellent two-tone grey/light grey interior.
All windows, including the front "swing out" Safari windows are original excluding the rear Safari window. For purposes of safety, grey Westfalia seat belts with chrome buckles have been installed in the front and rear bench seats. The interior moldings, chrome, original rubber flooring, rear cargo, headliner and handles are in excellent condition as is the two-tone grey interior, door and side panels. Spotless period correct white wall tires on beautifully restored deluxe factory slotted wheels with chrome hubcaps are accompanied by original rubber trimmed bumpers both front and rear.
The engine bay is professionally detailed and the non matching engine (late '68 Type 2) has been rebuilt to factory specifications with the complete drivetrain showing under 250 miles. Rebuilt original transmission shifts smoothly with no grinding in both up and down shifting. The rebuilt mechanicals are all in working order including the lights, turn signals, windshield wipers, deluxe clock as is the restored steering wheel and horn button. With a fully restored undercarriage that matches both the interior and exterior in quality of restoration you will not find a finer example on the market today.
